Lesley McSpadden Graduated High School Today At Age 37
We can’t imagine the kind of heartbreak Lesley McSpadden felt when her son, Mike Brown, was laid to rest before she was, but that hasn’t kept her from fulfilling her dreams and living a rich life.
According to CNN, Lesley graduated high school today at the age of 37. McSpadden dropped out of school during her junior year to take care of Mike, and in light of his tragic and untimely demise, made it her mission to complete what she had started in honor of her son.
Jennings School District superintendent Art McCoy pressed Lesley to get her degree:
“It’s our responsibility as a caring community to educate,” McCoy told CNN. “I also impressed on her that there was no better way to honor her son or herself.”
If you need another reason to shed a joyful and slightly sad tear, check this out. Ms. McSpadden will graduate alongside her daughter and Mike Brown’s little sister, Deja Brown:
“[Deja is] very excited,” McSpadden said. “She said, ‘Mom I wish you could go to college with me too!'”
